The San Francisco Democratic Party stands for equal opportunity, civil rights, a living wage, affordable housing and health care, a clean environment, strong public transit, and a woman's right to choose (hey - me too!). We have analyzed these ballot measures and candidates using those principals. Here are our official San Francisco Democratic Party recommendations.
We urge you to vote NO on Prop F and YES on Prop G, both relating to revitalization of the Bayview. Prop G, which resulted from a decade-long community process, will result in a significant amount of new housing in the Bayview, 25% of which will be affordable (Jen's comment: with the median home price in The City being astronomical - probably over $600,000 - seems we really need WAY more "affordable" housing but whatever, this is a start). Prop F, by contrast, contains requirements that are likely to kill the entire project. NO on F, YES on G. We also strongly encourage you to vote NO on Prop 98 and YES on Prop 99. Prop 98 is a stealth initiative put on the ballot by the radical right wing of the Republican Party, specifically the Howard Jarvis Taxpayer Association. It calls itself "eminent domain reform," but what it really would do is undermine environmental protection, zoning measures, and other laws that protect our quality of life. It also explicitly repeals rent control (Jen says: in a city where we pay $1350 a month + for a tiny junior one bedroom in a building almost 100 years old, we need rent control!). Prop 99, by contrast, is real eminent domain reform without a hidden agenda.
When you vote by mail or at the polls on June 3rd, please use these official recommendations.
(Yay - my first post! Something a little more "light" for next topic. Enjoy!)
